This is a colorful, exploratory website for young learners.
Students can compose their own melodies and add drum beats.
Each pitch has its own color - using the C Major Scale.
Options include: (major, pentatonic, or chromatic scales.)
Your students will want to "save" their songs. There is also an option to "share".
About six years ago, I discovered Songmaker and wondered all the possible ways I could incorporate it into my lesson planning, for my music classroom, grades 5-7.
At first, I drew all the lines out with a ruler and added each color/note step, but then I knew I needed to create a template that would be clean, sharp and easy to print and go.
I have created the pdfs for Songmaker as a shortcut for music teachers to use.
Templates include (matching the SETTINGS on CML)
8 Bars-4beats-split 1-Middle C- 1 octave
4 Bars-4beats-split 2-Middle C- 2 octaves
4 Bars-4beats-split 2-Middle C- 1 octave
4 Bars-4beats-split 1-Middle C- 2 octaves
2 Bars-4beats-split 4-Middle C- 2 octaves
2 Bars-4beats-split 3-Middle C- 2 octaves
You can find the digital product here:
Concepts:
Time signatures, beats per measure, note values, C Major, Pentatonic, Chromatic scale steps.
Lesson planning & Application:
Student may create a melody on Songmaker, then color in their worksheet to make a hard copy to keep or share.
Teacher may fill out the worksheet with a song for the studnets to copy and enter into Songmaker.
Teacher may use it for solfege, listening and playback.
Students can learn/sing a song, then try to enter it into the grid.
I would love to hear how you use it in your classroom. : )
It can also be used with your private students. They will enjoy creating their own melodies!
